Book Club
Meets one evening a month for wine, cheese and discussion. All members welcome.
Read any good books lately? If you are a member of the book club, you have. Past selections have been The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, Everything is Illuminated by Honathan Safran Foer, and My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The main premise of this club is to read interesting books, both fiction and non-fiction, which stimulate our brains and take us momentarily away from the world of runny noses and playdate schedules.

Note that members who purchase the books through the links to Amazon.com, generate a small referral fee for NMF.

Knitting Club
The most recently formed club in the Newton Mothers' Forum is the Knitting Club. We've got knitters running the gamut from the very experienced to absolute novices. The great thing about the group is that we get to just sit, knit and chat. It's very relaxing, and yet we still accomplish something.

Parties
The September Socials, Holiday Party, Wine and Cheese Tasting and Game Night. Also, various other get-togethers throughout the year, e.g., gallery visits, progressive dinner party, cross-country-ski morning.

Community Outreach
In the past, The Mothers' Forum has raised various donations to help families for The Second Step homeless shelter in Newton, victims of Hurrican Katrina, and Room to Grow, a nonprofit who provides baby essentials for low-income families. We hope our donations can go to help other parents and their children who are in need. We also host an annual silent auction. Local businesses donate goods and services to help the NMF raise money for two local charitable organizations. This year part of the proceeds will go to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, and Birthday Wishes.

Meals for New Moms
This is a program to provide meals to our members who are experiencing a life-changing event, such as the birth of a baby. Here's how it works: when one of our members goes through a life-changing event, she (or one of her friends) contacts NMF, at which point a home-cooked (or a delicious store-bought) meal will be arranged to be brought to her home by an NMF volunteer. This is simply an effort to help ease a transition for members of our community.
